Living with Crohn’s disease or Ulcerative Colitis (collectively known as Inflammatory Bowel Disease, or IBD) can be incredibly challenging—but even more so when there’s a lack of awareness or understanding within the community. That’s why one of JCCSG’s missions is to educate and advocate for individuals quietly battling these conditions every day.
IBD is not simply a “stomach problem.” It’s a chronic, lifelong illness that causes inflammation in the digestive tract, leading to pain, fatigue, unpredictable bowel movements, and often, emotional distress. Symptoms may come and go in flares, making it hard for patients to plan daily life, attend simchas, or keep up with work or yeshiva.
In the Orthodox community, where meals are central to so many aspects of life—from Shabbos to Yom Tov to learning schedules—IBD can feel especially isolating. That’s where support and understanding make a powerful difference.
JCCSG is committed to bringing this often-hidden struggle into the light. By offering information sessions, distributing brochures, and speaking directly to Rabbanim, we’re building a more compassionate environment for everyone affected.
