Baruch Dayan Ha’Emes – A Loss to our Community!
April 22, 2013 Yoely Drummer

We, at the JCCSG extend our sincerest condolences to the sudden passing of Dr. (Yehoshua) Jeffrey S. Ben-Zvi. MD, FACP, FACG, AGAF., OBM (57 Years old).

The pain is still raw, and the loss so profound. Dr. Ben-Zvi has played an integral role as an a Attending Gastroenterologist at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt and Beth Israel Medical Centers, an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, and Former Director, GI and Liver Clinic – at Lenox Hill hospital. And a Member of the Medical Advisory Board, of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), NY Region.
Dr. Ben-Zvi was a strong advocate for our noteworthy organization JCCSG being a sounding board of advice, guidance, and affection. We had the honor to have him as a speaker at our first JCCSG Education and Support Event, nearly 2 years ago at the ParCare Health & Medical Center -where he served as the Medical Director-, his speech was very informative and gave a better understanding for the 200 attended Patients and their Family.

Dr. Ben-Zvi had a sterling personality, and unbelievable self-sacrifice, to patients around the world suffering from gastrointestinal diseases. An IBD sufferer himself, he accepted someone else’s pain and suffering as his own. being orthodox Jewish, it was of paramount importance to keep to Yiddishkeit (Jewishness) fully, keeping away from desecrating the Shabbos, or transgressing on Mitzvos (commandments), although it meant jeopardizing his career. He was recently very instrumental in research and medicine, and was being ever so hopeful to revolutionize a permanent cure for Crohn’s and colitis. Sadly, he didn’t live to the day to see his dream materialize. It is with a heavy heart that we mourn a loss of this magnitude.
The Leveiya – Funeral will take place TODAY, Monday, April 22nd, at 1:00pm, At the Kehila Chapels,  60 Brighton 11th St. Brooklyn NY 11235
HaMokom Yenachem Eschem B’Soch Shaar Aveilei Tzion V’Yerushalayim.
